SHSL Gamer AU info (WIP)
Aug. 9th, 2017 11:35 pmAt a young age, Sayaka was left at home by her father, who worked long hours -- since her mother had passed away very early on in her life, she felt lonely and needed something to fill that gap. Her father bought her her very first video game console, so that she could watch TV or play games to occupy her time. From that day forward, Sayaka let those games fill the void in her heart left from having nobody to talk to and nobody to interact with.
Going to school, however, caused her to be able to actually make some friends, and by middle school she had become quite popular. However, most of her time outside of school was still spent playing video games, as she had started getting interested in honing her skills even more to become a recognized gamer. To top it off, she never got to see those friends very often and when she did, she never really got to 'know' any one of them. Her games still kept her busy and fulfilled.
Come high school, she had finally achieved one of her dreams - Sayaka won her way into a national tournament for a game, and managed to take the top prize at the young age of 15, setting everyone's sights on her, and ending up with her getting scouted as the Super High School Level Gamer to attend Hope's Peak Academy.
At HPA, she managed to make friends with almost everyone in her class -- and since they were all equals, everyone with their own talent (or good luck) it seemed like she should have been able to really make good friends with at least one or two of them, maybe finding someone to play games with her at long last. Sadly, due to everyone's talents requiring them to spend much of their free time elsewhere, Sayaka was once again left alone to play her games after school.
She still had fun conversing with her friends while class was ongoing or whenever a party happened, and she would smile despite the loneliness crippling her thoughts. No matter what she would not stop smiling.

Sayaka Maizono is a gamer, and while that much is obvious, what's not obvious is how much she actually does. She owns two phones - one is filled with social games (your Farm/Ville and what have you) that she can send gifts to everyone every day, as well as other little games she loves to play in her free time, and the other phone is her normal phone for texting and calling people. It's said that many of her online friends have her actual phone number for texting her.
At night, things are much different -- Sayaka plays on her consoles and plays competitively on games like Overwatch, and many eSports-like games. She has a group on each game she plays, and even plays some MMOs, though she's not quite as active on them due to other games commanding her attention.
She's a 'friendly competitive' type of gamer, meaning she's very supportive of allies and enemies alike, and is chipper and cheerful whenever she uses voice chat, never trash talking or insulting others while she plays. Don't let that attitude fool you, however -- she's ruthless and takes no prisoners, and will leave her enemies high and dry whenever she can.
Outside of games, Sayaka is extremely friendly and peppy and tries to make friends whenever she can. However, she's usually playing games at the same time as talking to people. Though it looks like she's focusing more on her game, the truth is that she's learned how to play and talk at the same time, dividing her attention almost perfectly between the two. Her eyes focus on the game more while her ears focus on whoever she's talking to.
She's a fan of a lot of types of games -- platformers, cartoon-y games, action, adventure, even some horror games. The only game genre she's not so fond of, even if she plays a few of them, are shooters. (Overwatch and team-based games like that are usually fine in her book though.) She LOVES dating sims. Absolutely adores them.
She's always smiling, but she doesn't always feel happy -- she doesn't want others to know the loneliness that she feels, even though she herself can't do a lot to change that. Her voice is perfectly in tone and she's even learned to lie to make people believe that she's okay even when she isn't.
She's used to getting hugs every so often, but she's never gotten anything more -- no kisses, no holding hands, nothing. As dating sims are potentially her favorite type of game due to the fantasy of finding someone to love, her biggest desires over the years have been to find someone of her own to love, and feel what holding hands and kissing is like. She's never so bold as to attempt to do so on someone else unless the perfect opportunity presents itself (which is, really, never) and so her dream goes unfulfilled.
The easiest way to befriend Sayaka and get close to her is to spend time with her, show interest in her talent, and play games with her. For all of the feelings she hides and how well she can lie, she's extremely easy to get close to in this manner.
